The Swing & Things
Gentle readers,
I know I’ve been letting you down, but I’ve got a good excuse, I swear it! My life’s been pretty hectic lately; ever since just before OSCON, I’ve spent 2-3 weeks out of every four on location at my new workplace. (I changed jobs the week before OSCON, and you’ll notice there begun my silence.) I live in the D.C. area, but I currently work at Lime Wire, LLC, in NYC. Yes, them! Add that to planning a wedding, and other Rails-related obligations (book-writin’, most notably), and you have one very, very busy Amy.
Anyway, things are starting to get a bit more settled in nowand when I was out today in Times Square, I tripped and sprained or possibly fractured something in my ankle, leaving me with ample time to reflect on potholes and work on my blogso be prepared to see things moving. I’m taking a quick break from working on the new template to write this and also stab some blog spam to death.
“Unless you become as little Children, you can’t see casinos. All you need is faith and trust… and a little bit of casinos.” bid for most hilarious spam ever
Tonight’s agenda: I am fixing most of the file download links, the RSS feed links (oh no! sorry guys!! please resubscribe! I love you!), and also adding a little Javascript intelligence test to the comment form. From now on, you’ll need to provide my last name in an additional form field to submit a comment. It is my most fervent hope that this simple act should knock out a fair amount of the spam I receive, and make the site much more usable for everyone (because you’ll be able to read it without feeling the urge to stab yourself in the eyes).
Update (2am!): most of the file links are fixed, but not all. Working on the rest of them. Tomorrow will see the fixing of the old RSS/ATOM feed URLs and these download links. If you’re impatient, you can resubscribe with this nice FeedBurner URL which won’t change. (Want RSS and not Atom? No problem.) This weekend will see at least some of the slash7 site design restored, and hopefully I’ll track down the bug leading to listing all the articles ever on one page…
Anyway, thanks for bearing with, and for your understanding and cooperation and other semi-creepy management-y expressions.
I’ll also have a new cheat sheet coming soon, so watch this space.
it’s good to have you back, Amy..
So glad you’re back — I had noticed your feed had gone quiet, and just came to the actual site on a whim this morning and found your fresh post. I have a friend who just arrived on the other side of planning her wedding, and so I sympathize. Looking forward to reading you again when you are fully returned —
Hey Amy, Some ideas for quick and easy blog filler…
Looking forward to the next cheat sheet.
Amy, The link to the PDF for your Javascript Bootcamp talk is still broken
Sorry, guys, about the links! I’m working with my friendly local sysad to get that fixed. (And thanks for the support & ideas, too 🙂
