Chattering at Canada on Rails

Somehow I forgot to mention that I will be at Canada on Rails this April 13th through 14th. D’oh. How it could slip my mind, I can’t fathom… I blame the drugs!

I’m giving an introductory talk on Ajax in Ruby on Rails, and I hope to see you there. Even if my topic’s not your cup of tea, I’m looking forward to meeting so many of the folks I’ve known only by nicknames or blogs. (Just please don’t be creepy 😉

  1. How do you define creepy?

What if I got my certificate in Creepy?

You don’t need a certificate to be creepy! I’m not a big proponent of official education in any form. I am sure you can learn to be creepy in your own time.

To be creepy, just choose two or more items from this simple list:

    1. Follow me around without introducing yourself.

    2. Drool.

3a. Refuse to look me in the eye.

3b. Have a conversation with my chest.

    1. Stutter.

    2. As a total stranger to me, make outrageous compliments to me to other people I don’t know (see http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/01/20/ning-rip/ and look for my name).

  5. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

  6. Brian says:

You’re a tech fox? (I just read that techcrunch page).

I dunno about all of that… but you represented yourself well on the rails podcast.

Your feedback on your experiences with Rails is pretty informative…and creatively written. I’m sure your book will be a good read. I’m definitely curious what you’re going to think about rails over time.

Brian, I don’t know about that. I may be CRAZY… like a fox. But honestly, have you looked at a fox lately? They have those pointy snouts meant for ripping flesh and beady little eyes. They’re really not very attractive at all, except possibly in an "efficient dispatcher of rabbits" kind of way.

Plus, you know, rabies? Not sexy.

  10. Raul Peinheimer says:

You may be a total stranger, but I can say without a doubt that you are the coolest person on the planet.

  12. Brian says:

"have you looked at a fox lately?"

Not since Fox and the Hound. I think I was given a very misleading image of foxes as a child.

    Speaking of image…

As Raul says, you do seem cool. Now you are starting to brew up this public image that you have to keep afloat. You have to maintain your "coolness" with everything you say. It’ll be in the back of your mind everytime you speak.

"Was that cool?" "Oh dear!" "Did I just sound dumb?"

    No pressure. 😉

Brian, part of the being cool means I don’t care whether people think I’m cool 😉

Feck that, I want to have a conversation with your chest.

  19. Hey Amy,

I’ve just posted an article on my blog discussing your writing style:

    I’m expecting your rebuttal!

    Cheers,

    Alex

  20. Just thought I’d make a note about a problem.

  21. Very nice write up 🙂
